What’s it going to be?

January 6, 2010 by admin

Every year at this time millions of people commit themselves to getting better or improving some aspect of their lives. Could be career, fitness, weight loss, lifestyle or just getting off those 5 cups of coffee or Blue Monster!

As a kettlebell athlete I have to ask you, what’s it going to be in 2010? Will you press the 32kg kettlebell? Will you get 200 Kettlebell Snatches in 10 minutes or under? Or will use kettlebell training to help you win more medals in your chosen sport?

You don’t even need to have any outcome goals. You could simply set process goals…like “I will train with kettlebell 4 times per week and hit a yoga class twice per week.”

Just setting process goals will move you towards your outcome goals much easier while having more fun during the PROCESS.

But setting the process goals isn’t enough, you have to act. It’s action that counts! The ability to get things done is what separates people who get results and those who only talk about things.

“Talk Does Not Cook Rice. - Chinese Proverb”

That’s is just an awesome quote!

Already started meeting my fitness goals for the year over the holidays by exercising discretion and moderation in what I ate.

Now, it’s training, and nutrition, nutrition, nutrition.

Without proper nutrition, I wouldn’t be training at all right now. I’ll tell you the story sometime when we next talk, Jason.

    Thanks for this post!

I was introduced to Kettlebells just before x mas 2009 and did 2 work outs, now I am hooked. I am looking to drop some weight, build my core, and stay strong. I am glad to have discovered this simple and effective tool. My son is in youth football and wrestling and is doing it too, he has started placing in wrestling and is excited to see his gains this fall in football. My father in law and wife are the inspiration for this and I need to thank them for taking, and thank all the real instructors out there that are utilizing kettbells to better althletes and make average persons meet their goals.
    Thanks
    Justin

Hi jason i am based in the uk and have been a kettlebell fanatic for just over a year now.

    Eat more vegetables
Get KB Training from a RKC Trainer (scheduled for Jan 9)
Train with KBs at least 3 times a week
Use the Couch to 5K to train for a 5K
Participate in at least one 5K this year
Watch the pounds drop as I become physically fit.

i just want to recover completely from my hamstring injury and get stronger. how strong i get is completely dependent on that, so i have a hard time figuring a concrete goal. but i’m ready!

    Hi KBA!

Mo goal for 2010 is to complete the VO2 max 15:15 with the 1pood, 8reps per interval and at least 40 intervals.

To get there I will hit KB once to twice a week and cross country skiiing, hiking in the mountains or even spinning once or twice a week.

for 2010 I am going to press the 32 kg!!! My other goals are to be more athletic and boost my “real world” strength i.e. less dead lifts more pull ups, dips ect…and after reading your post I aspire to get those 200 snatches in 10 mins!!! haha

I am continuing to work toward my goal of losing 80 more pounds (4 down already), continuing to work with kettlebells and workout more consistently at home, change my nutrition to a cleaner way of eating and take care of my body, mind, and health.

I would be interested in a good Kettlebell routine to use at home if you have any suggestions…

    @ Mike Massie,

Nutrition is the haredest part isn’t it? I promise to keep you in check if you promise to harrass me from time to time as well.

I’ll give you a call this week!

@ Professor Komar, that sounds like a great plan. If I can help with anything you have my number.

  12. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:24 pm

    @ Nicole,

Great work on your weight loss. Keep your eyes on our site for a home-based kettlebell training system. It’s in the works and will be released in January.

  13. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:24 pm

    @ Jim,

Great goals. What’s your best press currently?

  14. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:26 pm

    Hey Petter,

Great goal and don’t be afraid to combine those training modalities. My kettlebells love the mountains near my parents house. They said it reminds them of Russia.

  15. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:27 pm

    Hey Kelly,

Sorry to hear about your injury, hamstrings can take a while to recover. Maybe I’ll shot some videos to help you out.

  16. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:28 pm

    @ Alfreda,

Let me know how your training session goes. Great goals. 5K will be nothing.

  17. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:29 pm

@ Rich from the UK. Where is your 32kg pressing now? How many per side? Where would you like to be?

  18. admin on January 6th, 2010 3:31 pm

@ Justin, make sure to get some training in with your son. He’ll appreciate it and it will keep you motivated.

If you remember, you taught me to clean at the LB PB Summit. I can now clean and press the 28 for reps, my goals are to clean and press the 32, snatch the 28, and become an RKC! Thanks for your info and influence this summer, you totally turned around my training and teaching!

  20. Gerardo on January 6th, 2010 4:06 pm

My goals for this year will be the same as last year, keep training with kettle bells, eating healthy, train jiu jitsu and compete. No resolutions, just good habits. No need to loose wait, just focusing on my core and grip strength.

  21. James on January 6th, 2010 5:24 pm

Here are my goals for 2010:
    One Arm Press 32 kg
5 reps of weighted pistols (each side)
10 consecutive pullups (weighted if possible)
    16kg Bottom Ups TGU

  22. Mike on January 7th, 2010 1:09 am

My goal for 2010 is to be the best kettlebell lifter I can be- I can only compare myself to myself and not to others and to try to increase my PB’s from 2009. This means pushing my broken down 39 year old rugby body to it’s limits and past and enjoying every minute of it. I have been a kettlebell lifter for two years, and certified under Agatsu in Alberta, Canada as a level one instructor for six months. Instructing has given me a whole new perspective on training; teaching others has made me a better lifter and let me enjoy watching fledgling lifters progress to past what they thought was possible. My class gets me off my butt when I don’t feel like training because I know others depend on me. I want to thank you you guys a Kettlebell Athletics for providing a excellent source tool for myself and others who love KB’s.

  23. admin on January 7th, 2010 6:53 am

    @ Gerardo,

BJJ and kettlebells. My favorite mix. Please let me know if I can help with anything.

  24. admin on January 7th, 2010 6:54 am

@ James, It seems like you’re not alone with the 32kg kettlebell press. I’ll put together some videos to work up to that.

  25. admin on January 7th, 2010 6:58 am

    @ Mike,

Shawn Mozen and I go way back, he’s a great guy with an outstanding program. Glad you were able to attend.

How can i improve my Turkish git ups? The left side hip bothers me a little bit. Is there anything i can do to help the hip joints?

  27. Nicole Holt on January 8th, 2010 7:34 pm

I will run my first 10 miles in April and compete in my first sprint and/or olympic triatholon. Not sure which triatholon, but logging in here reminds me to do so asap. I don’t need to win, just finish injury free and happy:)

  28. kelly alice. on January 11th, 2010 2:02 pm

thanks jason. so far so good. i have been training with kevin mccarthy out of Punch in Boston and he has helped me with realignment exercises for my hips/hip flexors. hamstrings have been feeling great. i have been deadlifting (and other things) with no pain for several weeks. now i supposed i just have to pick a specific goal, i guess? “getting stronger” is pretty vague.

  29. admin on January 14th, 2010 7:08 am

    @ Kelly,

Yes, “getting stronger”is pretty vague. Where are now with your weights? Glad to hear that you’ve been pain free.

  30. kelly alice. on February 2nd, 2010 11:56 am

right now my TGU is very solid with a 16kg, can do a few 20kgs. i can press a few out with the 16kg. deadlifting 2 24s. snatching the 16kg. it’s hard to chose a goal that isn’t too lofty (oh you know, like TGU’ing the 44 and deadlifting 2x my bodyweight!), so i think i need to pick some in between goals.
